Beware of Scams

Facility managers, Environmental Service Supervisors and homeowners alike need to beware of “blow-and-go” air duct cleaning companies. These companies often charge a nominal fee and do a poor job of cleaning the HVAC system. These companies may also persuade you to pay for unneeded services with and/or without their permission.

You may be told things such as you have mold and other toxic substances in your HVAC systems – claims which are most likely false without proper inspection and testing and are used merely to extort money. Coupons and flyers advertising rock bottom prices on “whole house air duct cleaning” and “HVAC mold and soot removal” arrive in the mail daily for some. If you have knowledge of a practicing “blow-and-go” air duct cleaner, contact your local Better Business Bureau to report the company.

Now with Covid-19 it is becoming even more challenging. We continue to learn more each day regarding how COVID-19 is spread and there is no definitive research to conclude exactly what role the HVAC system may or may not play in its spread. At this time, no one can definitively say whether or not air duct/HVAC system cleaning is effective in mitigating the spread of COVID-19.
